50 River Reunion

After a hiatus of more than 35 years, I returned to the Charles River this week for some rowing. As a new member of the Cambridge Boat Club, I took out a wherry, a training boat which is less tippy than the sleek, lightweight singles. My hands somehow remembered how to work the oars and feather the blades without difficulty. I rowed on the Charles for six years between the ages of 12 and 18, and then again in college. It's a handsome river for rowing, and the boat club is a classic structure built in 1909.
