64. My 500-Mile Birthday
For my 56th birthday, Darlene and I drove 501 miles, from Omaha to Portage, Indiana, where we are settling into a Comfort Inn en route to New England. I made this video by setting my watch alarm to go off every 30 minutes, then shooting about 10 seconds out the window with my Sanyo Xacti camcorder.
I also was happy to receive telephoned birthday greetings from my parents, my sister (who sang the whole song!), and my two daughters as we rolled along I-80.
Tomorrow we head for Akron, Ohio, the birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous. If we arrive on schedule, we will be able to attend an open meeting that began in 1935 and is recognized as the first AA meeting in the world.
