My friend Kes Woodward of La Conner, Washington, is a terrific host in his high home overlooking Puget Sound. We visited on the deck briefly, then drove to downtown La Conner to continue our conversation in his studio. Kes discussed his recent series of falling-snow paintings and his way of choosing what to work on next. He and his wife are moving back to Fairbanks, Alaska, after two years in Washington state.
