DNC 9 Mall of Babel

Denver's 16th Street Pedestrian Mall on Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention featured impassioned theological discussions and, mercifully, some music.

DNC 8 Profile of a Peaceful Protest

Today's anti-abortion protest at the gate to the Pepsi Center perimeter was peaceful and orderly, thanks to preparation by both police and protesters. As I spent time editing these clips, I felt pride in America's Constitutional protection of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, along with common sense limits to such freedoms such as not permitting protesters to block others from getting where they want to go on public ways. This event would have looked a lot different in China, and I probably would not have been allowed to video it.

DNC 7 Howard Dean on Obama's Chances in Arizona

Howard Dean answered a question about Arizona at a blogger BBQ today inside the perimeter of the Pepsi Center. I had a chance to attend as a guest of Dave Winer.

This video and others I've done from the Democratic National Convention are being picked up by TheUptake, which has a talented video wizard, Michael McIntee, working late to get new content on their site.

DNC 6 Segway Security Check

With my Perimeter pass, I thought I'd see how close to the Pepsi Center I could get on my Segway this evening. The Secret Service had a very clear answer for me.

Note: DNC 4, a video of Dave Winer waiting in line yesterday at the Pepsi Center, ran afoul of technical difficulties so had to be pulled. You can see The Uptake's version of it here.

DNC 4 Segway Reporter

My Segway is a great way to navigate DNC events, especially a media party at Elitch Gardens last night (August 23, 2008). Someone who knew his way around a camera saw me videoing myself and offered to take a long shot, and he added an artistic touch with a closeup of the wheel. So thanks to my anonymous helper!

DNC 3 - Interview with R. Luke DuBois

An interview with R. Luke DuBois, the creator of "Hindsight is Always 20/20" on August 23, 2008, near the Pepsi Center on the eve of the Democratic National Convention. Luke's artwork is part of the innovative "Dialog:City" project curated by Seth Goldenberg and coordinated by the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs. Luke's project is brilliant, well worth putting on your must-see list if you are in Denver for the convention.

DNC 2 - Hindsight is 20/20

One of the excellent Dialog:City art projects during the DNC is titled "Hindsight is Always 20/20", a textual presentation of each of the State of the Union messages. This video is a Segway's view of the lightboards set up last night outside the Pepsi Center, showing each panel of the project. I will next upload an interview with the creator, R. Luke DuBois of New York City.

Note: The light bars are not part of the project design. They are an effect from the outdoor lights by the Pepsi Center interacting with the Flip Video.

DNC 1 Wendi C. Thomas

My plan for the Democratic National Convention is to use my Flip Video to record lots of events and people, posting them in my Video Pod Chronicles feed with little editing and prettying up.

Last night's videos were shot at a media and guests gala titled "Celebration with Attitude" at the Elitch Gardens amusement park.

Our house guest for the week is Dave Winer, whose work on the Internet I've followed for a long time. He arrived this morning and is down the street getting his press credentials. Denver is gorgeous today - bright and clear, ready to host some history!
