A Grandfather's Musings in Harvard Yard


I walked through Harvard Yard this morning savoring life as a new grandfather, nearly four decades after I walked these same pathways as a freshman living in Wigglesworth Hall. In the afternoon, I had a chance to meet James Joseph Foleno, born yesterday at 4:55 p.m., weighing just under eight pounds. He and his mother are healthy and amazingly wonderful. Tomorrow night we fly home to Denver, savoring the long wait and the spectacular arrival of this child.

Videos of a Wayside Inn


My mother learned to dance at the Wayside Inn. Both my parents grew up in Sudbury, Mass., where the inn has a long history made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. During lunch there last week, I recorded their personal reminiscences of the inn and of their courtship, which began in 1947 and led to a wedding in Sudbury the following June. I will save the audio recording for a family archive I'm assembling, but I couldn't resist making a little video blog to commemorate our visit. And so...
